I promised you no-frills recipes and I am dedicated to keeping it that way. But I can not in this particular case, because this recipe is soooo personal to me! If you are eager to start cooking my Wonton Tuna Tacos, – just scroll through my emotional blah and go to DIRECTIONS!
If you still here, I appreciate your interest! This beautiful recipe was born in… Siesta Key, Sarasota FL.
My amazing husband took me there for my “30 +” birthday and we both fell in love with that beautiful laid-back island! We enjoyed slow-paced days at the white sand beach and our nights in a town at the Village.
When you spent all day working on your tan and sipping ice-cold wine, you want something extraordinary for dinner. Something light and sexy. Something fancy enough to post on your IG story.  At the same time not too filling so you can continue to dance the night away!
Husband wanted Mexican, I am always down for sushi or raw fish ( yes he calls me a seal for that reason) and there we found it! The perfect compromise – crispy, crunch, light, and pretty – Wonton Tuna Tacos! Since that trip, this appetizer is a regular guest on my menu for lunch just for 2 of us or as an appetizer to WOW our guests!
Ok, now, back to business, here are the DIRECTIONS

MARINATE TUNA

Cut your tuna steak into small cubes, 1/2 inch X 1/2 inch. Add Soyaki Marinade ( or any teriyaki sauce/marinade you have, also you can simply use soy sauce and some sesame oil mix), 2 tablespoons of sesame seeds, and a little bit of Everything Bagel seasoning ( also optional). Let is marinate for 20 minutes, while we are working on our wonton taco shells.

MAKE WONTON TACO SHELLS

As simple as it sounds, this step is super important. And here is why:

Oil temperature is crucial for cooking wonton taco shells just right. If you heat the oil up too much, shells will become very crunchy and will eventually fall apart when you bite into your taco, so set your pan with Canola Oil (or any frying oil of your choice) over Low - Medium heat. Make sure oil is hot enough and put your first "test" wonton in.

Keep using thongs to keep the wonton under the oil surface and prevent it from curling. The hotter the temperature of your oil the more your wonton sheet will curl, so if you see it is getting out of your hands - lower your heat even more. It is almost like the best BBQ secret - low and slow! When you start seeing sides getting light brown - flip it!

Let is fry for a bit more, till the wonton shell gets nice golden, and using thongs fold it and take out of oil to a paper towel or cooling rack like I used, keep holding with thongs for 15 seconds so the shell will cool down and keep its shape, just like pictures below:

PREP GARNISH

I love to use cucumber for this recipe to add a fresh kick to it and elevate tuna to the next level! I don`t use seeds because they are too watery and mushy, so cut them out and slice the rest of the cucumber into thin long strips. Honestly, you can shop it into cubes, I do strips just for looks! Chop green onion and set both garnished aside.

ASSEMBLE TACOS

Place your wonton shell in a taco holder to make it easier. If you don`t have a holder make one using foil! Start with placing marinated tuna on the bottom. Add a little bit of Wasabi Sauce.

Next, go cucumbers and a little bit of Sweet Chile Sauce. Top it all with chopped green onion and a sprinkle of sesame seeds. Voila!
